Big Data…To Where? The four Vs
Big data means exabytes of data points whose scale and complexity require sophisticated analytical and statistical approaches. Big data can be described using the four Vs: volume, variety, velocity and veracity.
Using big data has been successful in many disciplines including economics, politics, health and science. Analysis of big data offers a creative approach to understanding complex phenomena such as climate change, disease and behaviour. The applications of big data analytics in these fields offer a glimmer of hope for the future of mankind. However, we must be wary of the challenges in adopting these new approaches such as ethical and legal restrictions and heterogeneous data sources.
